AKA design- Summer Home Tour Series

I’m thrilled to share another home tour with you today by AKA Design, and trust me when I say that you have GOT to run over to her blog after you finish the home tour. The pictures are beautiful, the inspiration abounding, and Shannon is a delight to get to know, so let’s not delay any further!

                                                                    Meet Shannon

Hi there Shelstring readers! I am Shannon and I’m a Canadian writer, interior designer, wife and homeschooling momma. I am the writer and half of the creative team behind the lifestyle blog, AKA Design. I am also the author of Bloggers & Brands, the blogger’s guide to pitching and working with brands. I’m so excited to be here to share our house tour with you!

Come on in…

We moved into this house in December 2012 – just 10 short days before hosting family for Christmas. Home ownership has been such an adventure. But now that we’re settled into our house I love spending time changing the decor with the seasons.

THE LIVING ROOM

We adore that this house has both a living room and a family room – something we’ve never had before. The upstairs living room has thus far progressed from not enough seating to ample seating for at least six. We built the Barn Door, Mantel and Coffee Table ourselves. I love cozy spaces so in the summer months I still keep plenty of throw pillows and blankets around for cool nights – or friends who get a little chilled by my air conditioner!

DINING ROOM

We sold our old dining table, chairs and hutch to the buyer of our last house. They were totally suited to the space. Which gave us a blank slate to decorate again. Dean built the farmhouse table and I finished it. We also DIY’d most of the other accessories in the room. Fresh flowers and pastel colors carry the dining room decor from spring right into summer.

KITCHEN

Our kitchen’s realtor photo threw me for a real loop when we were first looking at houses. I just couldn’t imagine such a tiny kitchen for a family of five. What didn’t show up was that there was a good 8 feet between the fridge and the closest wall! We are finally just about finished making it over. And I love it!

MASTER BEDROOM

Our master bedroom is the room that was most finished first. It is usually the last room most people work on, but with the kids getting older and taking over more of the rest of the house, it was important to me to have our bedroom looking great! We stenciled a feature wall, created the reclaimed wood look headboard and whipped up some easy envelope pillows to pull it altogether.

BATHROOM

This spring we we chosen to participate in Creating with the Stars. Although we didn’t win, we did make it to the final round in which we redid our main bathroom. Who am I kidding? It’s our only bathroom! I have rather a black thumb so faux plants and flowers brighten up the space and will change with the seasons.

Aside from our family room and kids rooms, which are currently a mess, that’s our house!
Thanks so much Michele for including me in your summer home tour series!

Right back at ya Shannon! We’re so happy that you joined us, aren’t we everyone?! And guess what? Shannon is celebrating her 4th blogiversary, so run on over to her amazing blog and see what else she has in store for you. I promise, you will want to take the time!
