When I was a little girl, I remember knowing that the Christmas season had started because there was a carton of eggnog in the fridge. My mother always bought it for my Father because he loved it so much. He always made it look so tasty. Yet when I tried it, I thought it was awful and since my husband didn’t like it, I didn’t think much of never having any again…until my neighbor’s daughter brought me some in a quart size jar that she had made in home economics.
It was so delicious I seriously think I drank most all of it and have made it every year since. My sister asked me for the recipe awhile back, so I thought I might as well share it with all of you!
Home Economics Eggnog:
3/4 C. sugar
1/4 teaspoon salt
6 egg yolks
-stir in slowly
– heat until mixture steams
(do not boil)
-chill mixture until cold
6 egg whites
-stiffly beat
1/2 C. sugar
-slowly add sugar to egg whites
– add egg white mixture to custard
1 C. whipping cream
-stiffly beat
1/2 C. sugar
-slowly add in sugar to whipping cream
-add to custard
-mix till combined
4 C. milk
-add to mixture
Nutmeg
-add to taste (approximately 1-2 tsp.)
*makes a little less than a gallon
Now if my family likes eggnog, it must be the most delicious.
Happy Holidays!
My hubby loves Egg Nog and I'm sure he would love drinking this. I'm hosting a link party on Sunday at 6pm PST and would love if you came and linked up.
